Cubs

Ages 8 to 10½

Build your skills and take on bigger challenges

Cubs is the second section of the 1st Filton Scout group and is for boys and girls aged between 8 and 10½. We have an active program with a balance of indoor and outdoor activities.

The Cub pack is divided into smaller groups called Sixes, each headed up by an experienced Cub called a Sixer usually with an assistant called a Seconder. We have two cub packs that meet

  • Mondays from 6:30 until 8:00pm
  • Thursdays from 6:30 until 8:00pm

Cubs build on and further develop the skills learned in Beaver. We offer a wide variety of indoor and outdoor activities including crafts, games, fire lighting, cooking, archery, wide games,  visits, hiking and outings. We also try and get the Cubs camping either indoors or in tents at least once a year.

Cubs also work towards and gain a variety of badges which they can wear on their uniforms to show everyone how well they’re doing. During their time in the Cub pack the Cubs will undertake several challenge badges each of which involves accomplishing a number of more ambitious tasks within the pack; if they achieve all 7 challenge badges then they are awarded the Chief Scout silver award which is the highest award a Cub can achieve.

We expect Cubs to be more involved in directing the programme and activities through pack forums and also to take an active part in the running of the programme.
