Beavers is the youngest section of the 1st Filton Scout group and is for boys and girls aged between 6 and 8 years old. The Beaver Colony is divided into smaller groups called Lodges, each headed up by an experienced Beaver called a Lodge leader.
We have one Beaver Colony meeting on Wednesdays from 5:45 until 6:45pm.
Beavers will be offered a wide range of activities both indoor and outdoor, this could include cooking, games, firelighting, wide games, crafts, climbing, archery and visits. But the most important thing is that we want the Beavers to have fun and enjoy making new friends and mixing with other children.
Beavers can also go camping either indoors or outside in tents; this appears to be the highlight of the year for some of the Beavers – We find sleep is usually an optional extra.
Whilst the Beavers are having fun they are also working towards badge. They love getting badges! This could be an activity badges such as the builder badge for designing and making a model rocket or the more advanced challenge badges which may take several meetings to get. If they get all of the challenge badges then they will be awarded the Chief scout Bronze badge, the highest award a Beaver can get.
We actively encourage parents/family members to sign up to the parent rota and come along whenever you like to help – Sadly, without parent help we would have difficulty in running all the activities.
You can find information about the Beaver uniform and details on where all the badges go here on the Scouts official website. You can also learn about the badges in this section.
